First oil painting ever. It's my new love. (Oil paints, I mean.) They're like butter.
Did this for my Drawing/Painting class final.
The assignment was to paint something that meant something to us. I couldn't for the life of me decide on what to do, but my teacher and some friends had been pressuring me to do this because having paintbrushes in my hair is like my signature... thing. XD Something like that.
We were trying to achieve realism.
It's not 100% finished, but I ran out of time. I'm not sure if I'll be working on it over the summer though. I don't have the supplies.
Comment and critique? I know about the paintbrushes being crooked. But it was too late to fix them when I realized it. D;
Otherwise I like it a lot.

8x10 canvas.
Oil paint w/ Medium.
About 10+ hours?
As an artist and a gallery owner I think that this is beautiful and for a first attempt you should be praised for the skill involved.
Oil is a very hard medium to use. You have captured the light with such a delicate hand and the squint brushes really don't matter - this is your first piece.
I think that you should be very pleased with this and continue to paint - you have obviously got talent and this will grow with time a practice.
Well done

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This contest ends on Friday the 18th December 2009. If you want to enter, get your entries in quick! Here are all the entries so far. Also if you want to donate a prize, that would be fantastic too, just note me
